Work in Progress.......

Orchid Needlepoint

I thought i would share with you what i am working on at the moment. Gorgeous orchids! I think i am going to make it into a pillow and give it to my mom, she loves Orchids. I got this canvas while on vacation last year in Hawaii, they have the most beautiful works of art on canvas, hand painted. The year before i got a Bear canvas, that was like in, 17 pieces, with hawaiian designs all over it. I had the shop put it together for me after i finished the needlepoint, there was no way i was going to try to sew it together, i was afraid i would ruin it. Ok,  i think i need to dig a picture out of it so you can see it, one sec..... ok, here ya go........

Greeting Cards.......

Last year I started purchasing most of my birthday cards for family and friends at one time, so when ever i needed one, I already had it! I started On January 1st and made a list of who i would need cards for. This year I was a bit behind, the middle of February, but it was fine since most birthdays on my list were after that. Lucky me.

I have a pretty box that i keep them in, so all i have to do it go there to get the next card on my list! Of course you will probably have the occasional unexpected birthday pop up that you need a card for, but you can always buy a few extra general birthday cards, a few for woman, men and children and you will always be ahead of yourself!

Yes, getting alot of cards at one time can be a big expense, but have you tried the "Dollar Store" ? They have some beautiful cards and they are 2 for $1, can't beat that! So get busy and make that list! :-)

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Valentine's Day Wreath

I have had this pretty fluffy wreath for about 6 weeks now. My mother had made one for herself in a different color and of course i just loved it. And of course if mom has the makings of another, she is going to make it for me.  I just needed to finish it off.  All the main wreath consists of is a foam core and a pretty feather Boa. You can purchase both at JoAnn's or Michael's. The Boa's come in an array of gorgeous colors. You will also need approx. 10 feet of matching ribbon, about an inch wide, preferably with the wire edges, this helps in keeping your bow in place. And last but not least, some pretty birds or flowers to finish it off.

This is what the main wreath looks like after adding your boa.

Pretty ribbon and birds...

Just wrap the boa around the wreath core making sure it is even all the way around and then pin it in place with some straight pins. Next make a pretty bow (i bought a couple different ribbons, i wasn't sure which one would work best) using a piece of wire so you are able to just tuck it into the foam core, but make sure you cover the wire with a small piece of the ribbon, this will give you the long dangling lengths you see on mine. Then just poke your birds or flowers right into the foam core also, most birds and flowers already come with the wire base so all you might need to do is trim it off. Tada..... your done! An easy 30 min project!

Looking for My Ancestors...

I've been curious about my ancestors for awhile now, but knew it would be alot of time and energy and didn't have much of that, until now. What really got me going was the new show "Who Do You Think You Are" . If you haven't seen it, each week they focus on one famous person, last night it was 'Tim McGraw" They always find some really interesting fact about their lives, people they are related to that had a huge impact of people's lives etc.

I started with Ancestry.com It is not very cheap to join, about $150 for the year, but i think it will be worth it.  You can use their web-site to start making your own family tree, but once you start searching their files you have to join but the good part is they have a free 30 trial, so you can see if you like it or not.

I got some new information about my grandmother last night and just googled her full name and was lucky enough to come across a page someone else had posted that had the entire family tree to my fathers mother, all the way back to 1830! I not only want to find out names and birthdates, but what they did for a living, where they lived, etc.

I then went to Ancestry.com and put more information into my tree that i got from the earlier googled page,  turns out i found 5 other people searching our family tree, not sure who they are yet, but i found enough to keep me going..... My great-Grandmothers picture!

New Blog....

Hello!

I finally broke down and decided i needed to start a blog, I've always wanted to write a book, but since i doubt a publisher would publish it, this is the next best thing! I love to read so i will share my favorite books with you. Love crafty thing's, so i will take pics of my works in progress and if you see something you like and need help recreating it, no problem, just send me an e-mail, i will be happy to help!

Travel is something i have a true passion for, if someone says to me, do you want to go so and so, I am the first to say yes! When do we leave!?  Cooking i can sometimes do without, not my favorite thing to do, but i hope to have the occasional post with some yummy recipe.

My kids are all grown and married except my youngest son who is 22, he is still at home and in college. So  I'm sorry, there will be no kiddie posts here. :-(   I do have 2 cute puppies and since i love them and they are so cute, (didn't i say that already?) expect puppy pictures!!
